If there’s one thing that’s made me a more productive person, it’s my evening routine.
It’s all about restoring balance to my life so that I’m ready to go the next day.
When I do my evening routine the night before, the next morning is just so much easier. A smoother morning means that I feel energized and motivated to start tackling my daily to do list.
The best way to get started with an evening routine is to just do it.
It might be hard the first day, because you’ve gotta break away from your old habits. But you can do it. No excuses!
Don’t procrastinate with your evening routine – just get it done. Taking care of the things in your life is part of being an adult slash successful human.

Evening Routine Steps
Start your evening routine immediately after you finish eating supper.
1. Clear the table and wash all the dishes. If you loaded them into the dishwasher, run it.
2. Put out dishes for tomorrow’s breakfast. If you drink coffee or tea in the morning, set those things up so they’re ready to go or turn on automatically.
3. Make lunches for tomorrow and put them in the fridge, ready to grab and go.
4. Wipe off the table, counters, and sink. Toss dirty washcloths/towels into the washing machine and put out clean ones for tomorrow.
5. Then, head to your closet and lay out your clothes for tomorrow.
This should only take you about 15-20 minutes, and then you get to move on to….
Typically we like to spend time outside, either relaxing/playing in the yard or going for a walk through the neighborhood.
Listening to music, watching movies, reading, and playing games together are all excellent ways to spend family time together.
If you’re married or in a relationship, it’s important to spend some time alone together every day.
Even if you’re really eager to finally get some time on your own, it’s always a good idea to spend at least a few minutes getting to chat over a cup of tea with your special someone.
Once I’ve taken care of my home, family, and spouse, I always try to have a little part of my evening just to myself.
It’s usually not very much time, maybe an hour or two hours left before bedtime.
I’ll take a shower, read, or work on a personal project. If I’m too tired, I love just browsing YouTube or Reddit.
Every evening is review my to do list for the day. I use a bullet journal to keep track of all my to-do’s.
I check off anything I got done, cross it off if it became unimportant, or reschedule it for tomorrow if I didn’t get to it today.
I’ll also make a note of anything significant that happened that day.
Finally, I’ll write tomorrow’s date and create a task list for the next day.
