Hi besties, it’s been a long, long time since I’ve posted updates to this blog. So let me share what I’ve been up to in the past few months.
Last summer, I was just breezing along creating and selling digital planners in my Etsy shop, WellellaPlanner. I had some best-sellers and was also busy creating custom planners for people. Everything was going pretty well, but around July I started thinking about the idea of school starting up again, and how my kids would be going out every day, leaving me home alone. I started to worry that it would be a repeat of last year, which was the first year both my kids were away in school all day. Being home alone all day and working on my projects was a lot of pressure and I knew I didn’t want to go through it again, so I started thinking I should find a part-time job.
Then, I saw that my kids’ school was looking for classroom helpers. Long story short, I ended up becoming a long-term substitute teacher. I absolutely loved everything about it and after a few weeks, I just had this gut feeling that that is what I want to do in life.
In order to become a real teacher, I need my bachelor’s degree. Years ago I went to art college and then university to study language, but I never completed a degree.
So now I applied to WGU, which was the first fully online accredited university in America. I chose WGU because I knew the only way I could make going to college work for me (as a mom of 2 and as someone working full-time) would be if I could go at my own pace and according to my own schedule. My dream goal in education is to be a Japanese teacher, although I haven’t decided which age group. So far I’ve been a substitute for 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th graders (and have not picked a favorite!) 🙂
For my studies so far, I’ve completed 4 classes and started a 5th. I’m finding that it’s quite challenging to study while working (and while being a parent). I noticed that there are lots of people making “study with me” videos on YouTube, so I decided to try making my own in the hopes that it’ll help motivate me to study more and show others that it’s never too late to learn and do new things.
I’ll also be creating some posts about study tips, studying online, going back to school, accelerated degrees and all that stuff right here on wellella, so stay tuned! In 2023 I’m hoping to add a bit more of a feeling of authenticity here on the site, so you can expect to see more posts like this. Thank you to anyone who read all this and I hope you smash all your goals in the new year!
