planning essentials

I don’t think planning needs very much.
Most of the time, I use one notebook, one pen I like, and a few small tools that make certain pages easier to use. A page marker so I can find the current week. A sticky note when I need something temporary. A ruler when I want a line to be straight.
I try not to keep supplies just because they are pretty.
Loose notes and things I need to remember all go into one place first. I can sort them later. The important part is knowing that there is somewhere for them to land instead of letting them collect on receipts, envelopes, and the backs of other papers.
I also keep a small planning pouch that I can move from my desk to the kitchen table or put in my bag. Just the things I actually reach for.
Every so often, I empty it out and remove whatever I haven’t been using.
I like having nice stationery, but I like planning more when the tools stay in the background. The goal is not to build the perfect collection.
It is just to make it a little easier to sit down, see what needs my attention, and begin.
