Bullet Journal Weekly Spreads

A weekly spread puts several days of plans and notes together. If you like seeing the week at a glance, these examples can help you choose a layout.

The designs range from minimalist pages to illustrated spreads. Look first at the writing space, then at any decoration you'd enjoy.

What’s A Bullet Journal Weekly Spread?

A weekly spread usually uses one page or two facing pages, with areas for dates, tasks, and notes.

When a weekly spread is useful

It can give you:

A view of the dates ahead

A shared place for the week's plans

A record of tasks you've completed or need to review

Space for notes from the week

It's similar to a conventional planner layout, with room to adjust the format.

Weeklies are an optional addition to the original bullet journal method.

They can be useful for appointments, meetings, and deadlines you want to compare across several days.

Rapid Logging on Daily vs Weekly Pages

You can put daily notes in each day's space or keep separate daily logs if you write more. Let the amount of writing guide the choice.

Weekly Spread Ideas

A repeatable layout can simplify setup, while changing the design may be something you enjoy. Either approach can work.

I like the rhythm of setting up a weekly page.

It also gives me a reason to draw, then use what I've made during the week.

These are some of my weekly layouts.

Minimalist Bujo Weeklies

For this week, I used a simpler layout.

I wanted space to try a few new things without adding much decoration around them.

If you'd rather fill the page with drawings and color, the examples below offer that approach too.

Themed Weekly Spreads

A theme can give you a starting point for journal doodles.

Here are some themed spreads I've made.

May Flowers

I based these small floral doodles on red-and-white English transferware dishes I have at home. I love their pattern.

I drew a tall rectangle at the outside of each page, added thin red-and-white washi tape as a border, then used a fine red pen for the flowers and dots.

The decoration took about two hours, so I wouldn't choose it for every week. I enjoyed taking the time for this page.

Colorful Flowers

For this spread, I returned to the small flower idea and added more colors.

Teal polka-dot washi tape marked the drawing areas. I filled them with flowers using gel pens and markers.

I was hosting guests that week and didn't update the page much. Having written the plans in advance was still useful when I checked what was coming up.

Weekly Spread with Stickers

The decoration here is cut origami paper glued onto the page, rather than stickers.

I bought the paper at Daiso. You can also browse Daiso origami paper on Etsy.

Horizontal lines separate the days. I'd seen similar simple layouts in the German planner community and wanted to try the format.

Daisy Theme

A minimal style bullet journal weekly spread featuring yellow daisy style flowers. My first bullet journal weekly spread!

This was my first weekly spread, made in April 2018. I'd kept a travel journal before but was new to making my own weekly planner pages.

At first I used a ruler for every line. Later, I preferred drawing some by hand for speed and the softer look.

Looking back at the early lettering reminds me how my work changed with practice. I can also see that the page was useful while I was still learning.

Later on, I made another daisy-themed weekly spread:

A weekly layout with doodles

For this week, I used daisies as the main decoration.

I made separate boxes for the days and left room for a larger task list. I had fewer appointments that week and was working on early versions of this site.

Washi tape, gel pens, and small printed images added the decoration.

Weekly Theme With Sunflowers

For the sunflower layout, I drew the flowers in the middle, divided the pages into columns, and added the days in the surrounding space.

I used a thin black pen to write the days of the week and added some simple borders around each column.

The weekly task list sits below the flowers. I left the day areas without boxes to keep more open space.

How To Get Started With A Bullet Journal Weekly Spread

To begin, choose an example with enough space for your usual notes.

Write the dates and any tasks you want to consider this week.

Add appointments before decorating, so you know how much room the plans need.

Try the layout for a week, then note where you ran short of space or had more than you used.

Adjust the next page from that experience.

Add stickers, tape, or drawing if you want them. Stop when the page is ready to use.

Final Thoughts on Weeklies in the Bullet Journal

A weekly spread is useful when it makes your plans easier to see. Keep the parts you return to and change those you don't.
